I started building (well, making glue-bombs) when I was a little kid in the late '50s but I got better at it in the '60s. Eventually I thought that I could do a better job than I was seeing in the model magazines so my very first article submission (on an Aurora slot track) was published in Car Model in 1970. My first car kit article was published in Model Car Science -- it was a mid-engined Javelin funny car in the April and May 1971 issues. I continued on with the how-to articles in the successors to MCS into the '80s. I was also doing free-lance HO model railroad articles for the same editor, Bob Schleicher. I pretty much stopped building cars and took up model railroading as a hobby -- but I paid a lot of attention to realistic-looking autos and trucks in that tiny 1/87 scale. That's still my hobby but I got back into 1/24-1/25 building in 2008 by entering H.A.M.B. model build-offs on jalopyjournal.com once or twice a year. My username there is abc123 in case anyone wants to look me up there. My next build-off model, beginning on Jan. 1, will be an early '60s rail with a straight 6 engine.
In real life, I've worked in the new products departments of die-cast car/truck/motorcycle/toy manufacturers since 1982. I did product design for a long time but as we hired better and faster designers I gravitated to doing just the stock vehicles and paperwork stuff like licensing. The whole time I was also involved in catalog writing, photography, proofreading and (in those ancient days) paste-up.

Welcome to our sleepy home Chepp,
It's nice to have a new member east of Pomona, I'm south of Pomona & I like your vintage dragster, please keep us posted on that..! PS - Monogram is re-releasing the old Sizzler dragster as the Slingster so you'll see a lot of early drag race projects soon.
