I am doing a 55 pro mod like a picture I saw on Dave's show rods board. I needed to make some custom zoomies and I found two ways. First I found some aluminum tube that fit one in the other. I filled the smaller tube with plastic rod and bent it very slowly. After making 8 pieced and getting them all the same bend and length I drilled the plastic out of the end. I then cut lengths of the larger tube and slid them over the bent pieces. Cut to your desired length and you get a step down zoomie. The only problem is that the only sizes of tube that is close will only look good on a 1/24 engine. Soooo.
I then got some plastic tube that was about the right size for 1/25. I then found some rod that would fit inside. Next I filed the head down so that I could cut a piece of plastic to make the header flange and used a small spot of glue to hold it too the head. Next I drilled holes at angles that I could put in short pieces of rod. Next, I held the tube over a candle just long enough to soften it up but before it started to bend on its own. I bent the first piece then I kept bending additional pieces to match the first. After that I cut the pieces of tube to length and I would then slide them over the rods sticking out of the heads. After cutting them all to the correct lengths I lined them up and applied some fast liquid cement. Next I added a brace to the headers. After it all dried I cut the headers from the heads, trimmed the tips to length and drilled out the tips.
Here is a link to the pro mod file that has pictures of the aluminum and plastic zoomies.
I hope this helps someone with a future project.
