Here is a little trick I have been using for a while now for preping textured surfaces for paint. For things such as interior parts, drivetrain parts, ect. with texture detail I scub them with Comet powdered cleanser. Just get the parts a little wet and, sprinkle on some of the cleanser then scrub with an old toothbrush. Not only does this leave the parts nice and, clean, it also scuffs the surface without losing any of the detail. Just be sure to rinse real well as it seems to be a little harder to rinse than regular dishsoap.
