56150... and Too All.... I am back from being work on............. I still need more work to be done.... A couple Root Canals? another extraction and so on.... I want to thank all you guys who wish me well... I wish some of you would spoke up and said you are CRAZY for going thru this...
Now Words of Advice on this topic... Don't drive there and back in the same day.... Total car ride was 12 hours long.. 6 hours there and 6 back... My friend actually drove there and back going the speed limit all the way there.... If I went....... Which I will... I would find a cheap hotel to crash after the show and drive back the next morning. The Show is so big... that its impossible too look at all the models real close in one day... Plan on leaving leave earlier than 3 am to get there for the swap meet... Flying does not make sense because you have to pay after your first carry-ons thru South West Air... Fuelish

I was actually thinking about taking Friday off and driving up Friday morning and then come home Sunday, which obviously means I would get a room for 2 nights. Your right about the extra fees at the airlines, but it could still be an option.

Well, Maybe, If schedules will allow, we can rent a car and carpool? I did a little checking on flights, round trip was from about $266 to $306 non-stop round trip to San Francisco (flight time between 1 1/4 hrs & 1 1/2 hrs). Then there is car rental, hotels, etc. There may be other, less expensive flights out there, I didn't have a lot of time to look. Driving may be cheaper for now but who knows with gas going the way it is, and flying up is only a little over an hour (and at about $150 ea way) is might be a wash even though a rental car would be needed once we got up there. Anyway, For those who might be interested, lets get together and discuss it. What do ya say? Keep in mind also that Desert Scale and the GSL are at the end of April and the Merced show (if they do it again) is in late May or early June. Lots of stuff to do in a small window of time.

I can't remember the name of the airport but there is one only 15 min from the contest. It was always cheaper to fly into that airport too.

San Jose (which is closer) is $293 round trip, but there were no non-stop flights. Total flight time for these were 5 to 6 hrs total (2 hr layover in Phoenix). If you find something else let me know.

The cheapest flights are from airports that usually don't have alot of traffic... The closest airport to Santa Clara is San Jose and your best bet is right now is to fly out of Long Beach non-stop to San Jose on Jet Blue... $98.00 round trip that is for Jan 24th 2009 because there reservations stop on the last day of January 2009. In another words it may be to early right now to book a flight until the month of October... At least 6 months in advance is only allowed for reservations. The cost to park at long beach is I believe $15.00 for 24 hours. This where you need to hook up with other members that are going so you can split the cost for parking. If you remember when we went to Salt Lake last year. My wife and I flew out of Long Beach on Jet Blue for a staggering $190.00 Round trip for both of us... Plus I received a 10.00 voucher for the next flight on Jet Blue.... GO WITH JET BLUE...... Fuelish

The numbers I posted were from Expedia. I will have to check out Jet Blue. If in fact the fares are that low, then flying would certainly be the choice (I think).
Wow! I just checked Jet Blues Web site and fares are a whole lot less! I think I'm going to start planning. P.S. - You are correct Fuelish, You can't make reservations any further out than 6 months.

If the recent fuel price decreases hold for a month or so the prices may drop even more.
